YYC held a very successful job fair on May 23rd at Calgary International Airport (YYC).
We had over 96 potential candidates show up for interviews and orientation, which was quite an experience for all of us.
Kudos to Maria Kalomiris, our HR coordinator, for putting this together, and Elizabeth Warwick, our quality assurance manager, for helping in the interview process. Having that many candidates show up was a challenge with several takeaways to be implemented prior to the next job fair.
Overall, it was fun and a success!

Summer has arrived, and, as usual, our services are in high demand at all locations. Our clients depend on ASP to be prepared to support their facilities with the various services that we provide.
Whether you are working in a security or customer service role, it is important for all of us to complement our clients core businesses and ensure safe, secure and efficient customer focused services.
Throughout the spring, we have been recruiting at all of our locations to make sure that we have the resources available and trained to meet the anticipated demand. Every employee plays a key role in contributing to our success.
I wrote about the importance of teamwork in the last newsletter and I think we have great teams throughout the organization that support each other daily.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your daily efforts in making ASP a successful service provider.

As you all know, the residential and commercial division continues to grow immensely.
With growth comes infrastructure change and growth as well. These changes have inspired positive change and growth that has allowed our team to take the next step and add new members to the management team.
I wanted to take this
opportunity to welcome Doug McBride to the team as the new Service Delivery Manager
within the Residential and Commercial division.
Doug has spent the majority of his career within the security industry, working in various roles. He has worked for organizations such as IBM in a corporate security environment as well as the contract industry in senior management roles. With Doug’s almost 30 years of experience, he brings a level of professionalism that will allow our team to continue to learn and advance the division’s skill set.
I also wanted to welcome Richard Haldane to the team as a member of the divisional recruitment team.

Richard comes to us with a background that specializes in recruiting
and people management. He has worked in the recruitment industry for more than
10 years, which includes working as a specialized consultant. Richard also
possesses a Ph. D. in Psychology, which allows him to truly understand people
on a much deeper level. I am looking forward to Richard’s experience lifting us
to the next level.
Last but not least, I would also like to welcome Nirushika
Sethulingam to our division as a member of the administrative team.
Nirushika is a very ambitious and driven person with a strong
background in administrative support and expertise. Nirushika is bringing a
very rare skillset to our team that is going to provide an opportunity for our
division to perform on a level that is second to none. Nirushika will bring
knowledge, experience and a mindset that will allow our team to become even
more detail oriented and organized, which will assist the field management
team. I am looking forward to Nirushika providing a unique skillset within our
team.
I personally welcome Doug, Richard and Nirushika to the team, and I
would like everyone to take this opportunity to welcome them to the team.

Kayvin has been an ASP employee for just under three years now and has done nothing but impress the management level every step of the way.
He didn’t start with ASP; 26 years ago, he came to Canada from the Philippines at the age of 13. Kayvin has always had a passion for customer service and he really showed that at the age of 17 when he took a summer job at Disney World in Florida. This position really helped sculpt the manager he is today.
Kayvin graduated as
an industrial mechanic technician from Humber College. After his
apprenticeship, he felt that Customer Service was his calling. He moved around
different industries within customer service for his first 15 years, gaining
experience with companies such as Wal-Mart, The Keg, Ikea and Home Depot. The
common theme throughout these companies was how fast he moved up through
management levels.
Just before joining ASP, Kayvin was a Territory Manager with
Microsoft. In this role, he was really able to combine his technical background
with his customer service passion.
Kayvin joined ASP the day we took over the OSR contract at
Pearson Airport. He spent just two months learning our corporate
culture before being promoted to a supervisor. It didn’t take long for Kayvin to be promoted to the Shift Manager role in late 2017.
Kayvin has done nothing but impress his managers throughout the
years and it really was an easy choice to select him for the Service Delivery
Manager position. Kayvin has built solid relationships with all of the agents,
supervisors and shift managers. It’s very rare to see an employee who puts
everyone else before himself and who really has a vision for where this
division can go.
Kayvin, we are
lucky to have you and cannot wait to see what you do for the remainder of this
year!

I would like to take this time to recognize a Union Station guard that has been with ASP since the start of the contract on May 21st, 2017.
Connor has worked very hard to be punctual, courteous and always be available to help the team when they need him.
Connor was recently recognized by the City of Toronto for their Q1 CS Applauds award (Customer Service Cause for Applause).
Connor, along with two other Union Station employees, worked collectively to identify and communicate with a patron who was showing signs of distress at Union Station. After establishing that the patron spoke a dialect of Arabic, Connor contacted his Control Operator, who in turn contacted GO Transit Safety requesting an Arabic-speaking Transit Safety Officer to attend for translation. After this officer arrived on scene and was able to ascertain the patron’s name, they found that the person was reported missing by Toronto Police Service. Arrangements were made and transportation was given to the patron and she was able to reunite with her family.
Connor’s diligence and professionalism directly impacted this patron’s safety and well-being, resulting in a positive experience and outcome.
Congratulations Connor! ASP and your fellow guards applaud you for this award.

This month’s Resource Planning rising star is Preetam Sathyanathan. Preetam started his career with ASP as a guard in November 2016.
With his continued hard work and dedication, Preetam progressed into the role as an airside supervisor in November 2017. With this position, Preetam was able to obtain gainful experience working independently and motivating his team and colleagues. Preetam has continued to push further in his career with ASP, and became a Resource Planner in May 2019.
As Preetam continues to excel within ASP, our Resource Planning team is happy to welcome Preetam to our department. His eagerness and dedication to ensure that we are fully staffing to all of our client requirements on a daily basis has definitely been a tremendous asset to our scheduling team. Welcome to the team, Preetam!

It is my pleasure to introduce and welcome two new team members in the Human Resources Department. Please welcome Ashley Campbell and Richard Haldane.
Ashley is our new Recruiter for Toronto Pearson Airport Security Division and will be responsible for the full recruiting lifecycle. In addition to her HR education from George Brown College, Ashley has held various HR positions such as a Recruiter, HR Administrator/Trainer within Securitas, Maple Lodge Farms and PLASP Child Care Services. She will be based at Pearson Airport.
Richard has joined the Residential & Commercial division as a Recruiter. He has previously worked with No Limits Consulting providing recruiting and life coaching services to individuals and organizations. Richard also comes with an impressive history of volunteer / community services. Richard has been involved with the Advisory Committee for Diversity, Wellness and Inclusion, We Play 2 Stay and IC Youth Mentoring, to name a few. Richard will work at the Toronto Office.

Punctuality is especially important if your employment includes shift work or requires team involvement.
Even if your work doesn’t involve daily time requirements of any kind, co-workers will probably notice if you consistently arrive late or have difficulty meeting project deadlines. Punctuality reassures your boss that you take your job seriously and work hard to meet client and customer demands.
The below mentioned are few reasons that help you tell how important punctuality is:
It shows strong character and portrays your interest in the company.
It gives you a chance to know more people in the workplace who work on different shifts.
It shows your respect for others. To be successful in life, it is important to show respect to your colleagues.
It gives more time to plan your day and settle down from the rush-hour traffic. If there is a meeting to attend, then prepare for it before entering the room.
Punctuality proves you to be a trustworthy, reliable and efficient.
It reduces stress. When work is done on time, it will reduce unnecessary work pressure, and prevents you from blaming others for the situation.
It boosts your self-confidence and increases productivity.
At ASP, it is imperative to our operation that our employees are punctual and reliable, since we need full coverage in our critical posts at all times.
Incorporating punctuality in life will also increase your respect among friends and family. Once it becomes a part of your life, it won’t be a task anymore. The best practice to be punctual is to keep a timetable and clock or watch with you at all times.

Fact: Every two weeks, ASP processes over 1,000 paycheques.
We have a standard of trying to reply to everyone’s email within 24 hours. However, sometimes employees will submit a request, and if they do not receive a response right away, they will email again and again, each time becoming more frustrated. Along with cluttering up our inbox, this takes time away from responding to others in a timely manner or interrupting the payroll process.
You can help us out.
Email once and give us time to respond.
Do not close your old bank account until we have confirmed that the new account has been configured. You run the risk of not getting your pay on time.
Check your employee portal for your hours before the payroll process starts and address discrepancies immediately with your supervisor.
Read your paystub carefully. Oftentimes, a “missed” item is there.
If everyone takes a little more time in reviewing their portal and paystub in partnership with the Accounting Department, we could have fewer emails coming in and more focus on ensuring everyone is paid on time and correctly.

Marriage or divorce
Birth or adoption of baby
Spousal job loss
Help us ensure all your eligible family members are covered under our plan, so please advise Human Resources when you experience these changes.
2. Choosing Your Beneficiary As life evolves, it is important to periodically revisit your decisions regarding your designated beneficiary. This is the person (or your estate) you named to receive proceeds of your Life benefit.
Here is the tax treatment for various beneficiaries:
An individual: This person will receive the Life benefit tax-free.
Your estate: If your estate is named as beneficiary, it will be subject to tax.
If you did not assign a beneficiary, any benefit will automatically go to your estate.
Children: Children under 18 cannot receive an insurance benefit and you must appoint a trustee for them. If this is not done by you, the court will appoint one for them in the event of a claim
In order to ensure that your beneficiary designation is up to date, please complete the Empire Life Group Change Form under section 7 and 8 and return the original signed copy to Human Resources.
Insurance companies require original signed forms for designations, changes to designations or for claims. Faxes and photocopies are not acceptable and may jeopardize payment of a benefit to your intended beneficiary.
